I have been privileged to spend my whole teaching career at Upton Cross Primary School. During this time, the school has transitioned from a 1.5 entry, based on one site, to a 5 form entry split over two sites. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles where I have gained experience both as a teacher and a leader. This has enabled me to gain a great amount of knowledge and understanding.
One of the first subject areas I led was Religious Education as this was my subject specialism at university. My degree in RE enabled me to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to understand how good practice of RE should be delivered. I have now led a range of subject areas which has enabled me to contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning across the school, in order to identify next steps to further improve practice.
I have been given a range of experiences in order to develop as a leader. Early on in my career, I was asked to participate in an Evolve course which provided me with opportunities to develop my knowledge of supporting colleagues through coaching and mentoring. This resulted in members of staff gaining confidence to manage issues which arise within the classroom.
At Upton Cross, there has always been a strong sense of community where the pupils and families are always at the forefront of our decision making. There is a strong ethos of collaboration and support in order to ensure pupils are given the best possible opportunities to reach their full potential. These are one of the many reasons why I have chosen to continue to develop as a teacher and leader and Upton Cross.
